Opening Day is 10 days away, and the Indians' roster is taking shape accordingly. On Monday, the club optioned infielder Yandy Diaz to Triple-A Columbus and released outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. and catcher Ryan Hanigan.
The Indians continued to add pitching to their depth chart on Thursday, signing right-hander Stephen Fife to a Minor League contract that includes a non-roster invitation to attend Spring Training with the big league club.

Made quality starts in his first two big league outings and allowed two or fewer runs in all five big league starts. Fanned a career-high nine St. Louis hitters on Sept. 16 at Dodger Stadium, his second-highest strikeout total of the season (Majors and Minors) behind only his 12 Ks in 7.0 innings on July 22 against Iowa (Cubs). Held opponents to a .255 batting average in the Majors, including a .224 mark against left-handers (11-for- 49)...limited the opposition to a .185 (5-for-27) batting average with runners in scoring position at the Major League level.
