PHILADELPHIA -- Marlins manager Mike Redmond lost a challenge in the bottom of the second inning Wednesday night on a play at second base in which shortstop Ed Lucas was pulled off the bag on a groundout by Cody Asche. Marlon Byrd was ruled safe at second.

In a scoreless game and runners on first and second for the Phillies, Asche grounded a ball to Derek Dietrich. The Marlins second baseman flipped it to Lucas at second to try to get the forceout for the first part of a double play, but the throw drew Lucas off the bag.

Redmond immediately came out to argue the call, and after a brief review, the ruling was confirmed, as replay clearly showed Lucas did not have his foot on the bag when he caught the throw from Dietrich.
