PHILADELPHIA -- Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, who has been out since Saturday with right elbow soreness, returned to Miami on Tuesday to have an MRI. The exam revealed a right triceps strain.
Miami manager Mike Redmond called the injury a "day-to-day thing," but Hechavarria could be bound for a stint on the disabled list.
"We're going to try to give it a few days to see if it gets better and is able to play without putting him on the DL," Redmond said. "We thought he was getting better -- he was getting better, feeling better. [Monday] he tried to throw and still had some discomfort there. Now it's just a matter of seeing how he feels going forward."
Ed Lucas will continue to hold down the fort at shortstop in Hechavarria's absence.
