MIAMI -The Miami Marlins, who currently own the best home record in the Majors, begin their sixth homestand of the 2014 campaign on Friday, June 13, with a three-game, weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Then, the Marlins begin a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs and wrap up the homestand with a four-game series against the New York Mets. The Marlins return home following a seven-game road trip to Tampa Bay, Chicago-NL and Texas, where they went 4-3.
The homestand features two Saturday Spectacular concerts as Fat Joe will take the stage on June 14 presented by Corona Extra and Boyz II Men will perform on June 21 presented by Majestic Athletic. In addition to the concerts, there will be two giveaways during the homestand. The first 5,000 dads will receive a Miami Marlins Dad Ceramic Beverage Mug courtesy of Preferred Care Partners on June 15, Father's Day. On June 22, the first 12,000 fans will receive a Salty and Pepe Shaker Set courtesy of Goya Foods.
The Marlins Foundation will be hosting their seventh annual Fish 'N Chips party on June 18 at 6:30 p.m. with catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia as the event chairman. Proceeds from the casino party benefit the Marlins Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities Program (RBI). RBI is a youth program designed to promote interest in baseball, academic achievement and social responsibility in underserved and disadvantaged areas of South Florida. The event will follow the series finale against the Cubs at 12:40 p.m., which is also the first Marlins Camp Day of the season.
On June 15, the Marlins, along with Major League Baseball and all 30 teams, will be joining the Prostate Cancer Foundation to "Keep Dad in the Game" by dedicating Father's Day to the fight against prostate cancer. Then on June 22, the Marlins will raise awareness of skin cancer through the Play Sun Smart initiative. MLB and the American Academy of Dermatology are teaming up for the 16th season to educate players and fans about the importance of sun safety. Play Sun Smart will raise skin cancer awareness, while encouraging players and fans to practice sun-safe behavior and to schedule regular screenings. June 22 will also feature the first of two Bark at the Park events this season at Marlins Park, allowing fans to bring their dogs to the game. Dog tickets are just $10 each, with all proceeds benefitting the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Tickets can be purchased in advance at marlins.com/bark.
