On Friday, the organization signed 18-year-old right-hander Cristian Olmos. The paperwork was finalized at Marlins Park.
The Marlins are becoming more active in international signings, and in Olmos, they are hopeful they have a pitcher with upside. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder throws 90-94 mph, and he has a promising curveball.
Olmos will start off playing in the Dominican Summer League, which begins on Saturday.
The Marlins faced Atlanta ace Julio Teheran on Friday. Teheran is also a Colombia native.
The other two Colombian players in the big leagues are pitchers Ernesto Frieri of the Angels and Jose Quintana of the White Sox.
