MIAMI -- There currently are four Colombian-born players in the Major Leagues, and the Marlins have one of them in Donovan Solano.
Miami hopes to add at least another in the future.
On Friday, the organization signed 18-year-old right-hander Cristian Olmos. The paperwork was finalized at Marlins Park.
The Marlins are becoming more active in international signings, and in Olmos, they are hopeful they have a pitcher with upside. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder throws 90-94 mph, and he has a promising curveball.
Olmos will start off playing in the Dominican Summer League, which begins on Saturday.
The Marlins faced Atlanta ace Julio Teheran on Friday. Teheran is also a Colombia native.
