MIAMI -- Kevin Slowey was one of the surprise stories for the Marlins last Spring Training, and the veteran right-hander will have the chance to see if he can do it again.
Slowey, 29, has agreed to a Minor League contract with Miami that includes an invitation to Spring Training. It's basically the same situation he found himself in last spring, except now he is familiar with the club.
Slowey threw 92 innings before his season was cut short on July 28, when he was placed on the disabled list with discomfort in his right forearm.
On Oct. 7, Slowey refused a Minor League assignment and became a free agent.
Slowey will offer some insurance as a potential fifth starter when Miami's pitchers and catchers begin Spring Training workouts on Feb. 16 at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla.
