The Miami Marlins today announced that the Club has signed third baseman Casey McGehee to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

McGehee, 31, played for Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in the Pacific League of Nippon Professional Baseball last season, helping to lead the squad to its first Japan Series championship in just the ninth season since its founding.

He batted .289 (11x38) in 11 postseason games for the Golden Eagles, who defeated Central League champion Yomiuri Giants in seven games in the Japan Series; McGehee recorded a hit in nine of those contests, with a home run and two RBI.

The Santa Cruz, California native appeared in all 144 regular-season games for Rakuten, batting .292 (150x513) with 28 home runs, 30 doubles and 93 RBI. He finished tied for second in the Pacific League in home runs, ranked third in slugging percentage (.515), fourth in RBI and fifth in doubles. He also drew 70 walks, which ranked fourth.

McGehee is a veteran of five seasons in Major League Baseball, breaking in with the Cubs in 2008 before stints with Milwaukee (2009-11), Pittsburgh (2012) and the Yankees (2012). He recorded career highs in home runs (23) and RBI (104) for the Brewers in 2010, while batting .285 over 157 games.
