Marlins Acquire Outfielder Brian Bogusevic From Cubs


The Miami Marlins today acquired outfielder Brian Bogusevic from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for outfielder Justin Ruggiano. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

Bogusevic, 29, appeared in 47 games with the Cubs last season, batting .273 (39x143) with seven doubles, a triple, six home runs and 16 RBI; he began the year posting a .317 average (84x265) in 79 games with the Iowa Cubs.

Over his four-year MLB career, Bogusevic owns a .236 average with 17 home runs and 62 RBI in 299 games. He owns a .288 career average over 465 Minor League games, with 36 home runs and 208 RBI.

He was drafted by Houston in the first round (24th overall) of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft as a pitcher out of Tulane University, where he was a Louisville Slugger First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Conference USA Pitcher. He was converted to an outfielder in July of 2008.
