MIAMI - The Marlins today announced the signing of first baseman Garrett Jones to a two-year contract through 2015. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Jones appeared in 144 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013, batting .233 (94x403) with 26 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs and 51 RBI. Since 2009, he has averaged 28 doubles and 20 home runs per campaign. He had a career-best season in 2012, batting .274 with 28 doubles, 27 home runs and 86 RBI in 145 games.
A native of Harvey, IL, Jones was selected in the 14th round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft by the Atlanta Braves and made his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins on May 15, 2007 at Cleveland. He is a career .254 hitter over parts of six Major League seasons, with 141 doubles, 102 home runs and 330 RBI in 708 games.
