Marlins name Craig Weissmann Vice President, Player Personnel


MIAMI - The Miami Marlins today announced they have hired Craig Weissmann as Vice President, Player Personnel. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

Weissmann joins the Marlins from the Oakland Athletics, where he spent the last seven seasons, most recently serving as a special assignment scout (2012-13); he began his time in Oakland as an area scout (2006-07), before becoming a professional scout from 2007-11. Prior to joining the A's, Weissmann served as a scout for eight years with the Tampa Bay Rays, and four with the Seattle Mariners.

Originally drafted by the Cubs in 1979, Weissmann, a right-handed pitcher, played 11 seasons in the Minors before joining the San Diego Padres organization as a scout in 1992. Weissmann, a native of San Diego, Cal., graduated from United States International University with a bachelor's degree in International Relations. He and his wife, Katharine, reside in Carlsbad, Cal.
