Marlins, Dobbs agree to one-year extension

MIAMI -- Greg Dobbs, who paces all active Major Leaguers with 95 career pinch-hits, will be part of the Marlins' plans in 2014.

The 35-year-old agreed to a one-year extension a few months ago, MLB.com has confirmed. Dobbs will make $1.7 million in '14, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

A veteran leader and primary left-handed bat off the bench, Dobbs initially signed a two-year, $3 million contract for the 2012-13 seasons.

The deal was worked out in June by team owner Jeffrey Loria and Dobbs' camp. But it has yet to be officially announced by the club.

Dobbs has appeared in 112 games this season for Miami, and he is batting .229 with two home runs and 22 RBIs. He had substantial playing time in the first two months at first base when Logan Morrison was on the disabled list.

Dobbs batted .244 in 87 at-bats in April. As a pinch-hitter this season, he is 10-for-47 (.213) in 56 plate appearances.

Dobbs joined the Marlins in 2011, initially signing a Minor League deal as a non-roster invitee.

News of Dobbs' extension was first reported by the Miami Herald.
