WASHINGTON -- Unrelenting rain washed out the Marlins and Nationals on Saturday night, and the game will be made up as part of a day/night doubleheader on Sunday.
The teams were holding out hope the game could be played, despite the tarp being on the field since mid-afternoon.
But after waiting three hours and 45 minutes, the game was officially postponed.
Sunday will mark the close of Washington's season at Nationals Park.
The first game of is set for 1:35 p.m. ET on Sunday, with Tom Koehler, who was slated to start on Saturday, getting the nod in Game 1. Rookie left-hander Brian Flynn will start for Miami in Game 2, which is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Marlins will be wrapping up their road schedule, and they are 2-7 on their three-city trip, which started with four games at the Mets and a three-game set at Philadelphia.
The Marlins have dropped the first two at Washington, and they are 0-8 at Nationals Park this year.
