Moran was selected sixth overall in last month's First-Year Player Draft out of North Carolina. Prior to the Draft, MLB.com had ranked the 6-foot-3 lefty slugger the sixth-best prospect.
"It feels like Opening Day all over again," Moran told the Greensboro News Observer before the game. "I'm really excited to get my professional career under way."
Moran's debut lined up with another bit of family success, as his brother Brian Moran, a reliever for the Mariners' Tacoma affiliate, tossed a scoreless frame in the Triple-A All-Star Game in the Pacific Coast League's 4-3 loss to the International League on Wednesday night.
Moran is also the nephew of former big leaguer B.J. Surhoff.
