First baseman returning from DL, LeBlanc to be designated for assignment

Kotchman joining Marlins in series of moves

MIAMI -- The Marlins will reinstate first baseman Casey Kotchman from the 15-day disabled list on Monday after optioning outfielder Jordan Brown to Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday.

The club will also designate left-hander Wade LeBlanc for assignment on Monday and recall left-hander Edgar Olmos from Double-A Jacksonville.

Kotchman returns to Miami in time for this week's six-game road trip after he missed 55 games due to a left hamstring strain. He suffered the injury during the Marlins' 3-0 loss to the Nationals on April 3 in Washington.

LeBlanc's departure comes less than a month after he was replaced in the starting rotation by right-hander Tom Koehler. Koehler has notched three consecutive quality starts and will get the call against the Phillies on Monday night in Philadelphia.

The left-handed LeBlanc, who had a 6.11 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP in seven starts, compiled a 2.70 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP in six appearances out of the bullpen.

Brown returns to the Zephyrs after serving mostly as a pinch-hitter in Miami. In 10 plate appearances, Brown was hitting .375 (3-for-8) with a double, a walk and five RBIs.

Olmos is 4-2 with a 1.27 ERA in 19 appearances with the Suns. He has walked 10 and struck out 20 in 28 1/3 innings.
