JUPITER, Fla. -- Jacob Turner has struggled with consistency and command for much of Spring Training. Rather than risk more inconsistency at the big league level, the 21-year-old will look to get back on track in the Minor Leagues.

The Marlins optioned the right-hander to Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday.

"Obviously, I had my chances," Turner said. "I can't blame them for that. It's just something. I didn't throw the ball as well as I'd have liked to. That's disappointing."

In all, the Marlins made seven moves Tuesday morning. Turner and lefty reliever Dan Jennings were optioned to New Orleans. Infielders Nick Green, Matt Downs, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Jordan Brown and lefty reliever Zach Phillips were assigned to Minor League camp.

Turner entered camp as a front-runner to be in the rotation. But in 13 innings of Grapefruit League play, Turner was 0-3 with a 9.69 ERA. He walked nine and struck out five.

"I have to get back to my mechanics and throwing strikes," Turner said. "Obviously, I didn't feel I showed as well in Spring Training as I would have liked to. Throwing strikes has always been something that's a big strength for me. Just get back to doing that and pounding the strike zone."

The Marlins acquired Turner and catcher Rob Brantly from the Tigers last July for Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante.

Turner was 2-5 with a 4.42 ERA in 10 big league starts last year.

"No matter where you're pitching, you want to do well," Turner said. "It's disappointing I wasn't able to show what I feel like I am as a pitcher, but it's not going to stop me from going down there, working and getting better, and getting back up here as soon as I can."
