MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced the signing of third baseman Placido Polanco to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Larry Beinfest.

Polanco, 37, has played 15 Major League seasons with St. Louis (1998-2002), Philadelphia (2002-05; 2010-12) and Detroit (2005-09), compiling 2,044 hits, 103 home runs, 700 RBI and a .299 batting average in 1,809 games. He is a two-time All-Star (2007, 2011) and has appeared in the postseason five times, including the 2006 World Series with Detroit after being named the 2006 ALCS MVP.

Polanco, who has primarily played second base and third base, has won three Gold Glove Awards, with two coming at second (2007, 2009) and one at third (2011). He also won the 2007 AL Silver Slugger Award for second basemen.
