MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today named Mike Redmond manager, signing him to a three-year contract for the 2013-2015 seasons. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Larry Beinfest.

Redmond, 41, returns to guide the Marlins, the team with which he spent the majority of his career, after compiling a 155-115 record (.574) in two seasons as a minor league manager in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

He was named the Midwest League Manager of the Year in 2011, his first campaign in the dugout, after guiding the single-A Lansing Lugnuts to a 77-60 record and an appearance in the ML finals. In 2012, he managed single-A Dunedin to a 78-55 record and a berth in the Florida State League playoffs, where the Blue Jays lost in the first round to eventual-champion Lakeland.

A former catcher, Redmond retired from his 13-year Major League career following the 2010 season with a .287 career average with 13 home runs and 243 RBI. He made his ML debut in 1998 with the Marlins and remained with the club for seven seasons, including their World Series championship in 2003, hitting .284 with 11 home runs and 132 RBI in 485 games. Redmond also played for Minnesota from 2005-2009, and for Cleveland in 2010.

Redmond and his wife, Michele, reside in Spokane, WA with their sons, Michael and Ryan.
