Marlins expect Infante to return in New York

WASHINGTON -- The Marlins are expecting to get second baseman Omar Infante back for the start of their series with the Mets in New York on Tuesday.

Manager Ozzie Guillen said Sunday morning that Infante, sidelined for four games with a sore left groin, will run on a treadmill so the team can see how he "runs and moves around." Infante told Guillen he'd be ready for Tuesday, but the Marlins will have a better idea after testing him out.

Guillen said on Friday night, before the start of the first game of the series against the Nationals, that the Marlins were likely not going to start Infante in this series with the hope he could come back for the opening game of the Mets series.

Infante did pinch-hit in Saturday's 3-2 loss, but that was his only appearance in Washington.

"Hopefully he feels good," Guillen said. "[If so], he's playing Tuesday."
